Welcoming Our New Executive Director

July 6, 2020

Dear Camp Families,

As we begin what would have been the first week of the second session at Camp Bernadette and Camp Fatima, I reminisce about my fond memories as camper and counselor at Camp Fatima.  I vividly remember color wars, cabin cookouts, Gold Rush days, Bernie/Fatima days, goodnights, and the many typical activities that took place where the sun is hot, the trees are shady, and lifelong friendships are made.   Although we all know too well, this summer is anything but typical, amazing things are still happening at Camp! Strategic planning, facility upgrades and repairs are in full motion, but most importantly, we are welcoming a new Executive Director to lead our camps. I am pleased to announce that the Camps Board of Directors with Most Reverend Peter Libasci, have appointed Mr. Leonard “Budd” Ryer as Executive Director of Camps Fatima and Bernadette, effective July 6, 2020.

Mr. Ryer has been involved with Camps Fatima and Bernadette for over thirty years; first as counselor at Camp Fatima, the Resident Director at Camp Fatima, a volunteer at E.C. Week for twenty-five years, and most recently as a member of the camps’ Board of Directors.  With a wealth of experience as a business executive in the financial industry, Mr. Ryer brings to the camps a strong capacity to lead.  As a devout Catholic and a man of deep personal faith, he brings a true understanding of our Catholic mission and philosophy.  In bringing a rich history with our camps, tremendous executive leadership experience in the private sector and a deep understanding of our Catholic mission, Mr. Ryer will be a transformational leader in guiding our camps towards an even brighter and more beautiful future for years to come.

I am thrilled that Mr. Ryer will serve the camps in this role. In his introductory letter to camp families, staff, and alumni, he mentions his desire to “advance the camps’ mission” and “secure a robust future for the camps by building on all the goodness that the camps accomplish today”.

Please join me in welcoming Mr. Ryer in his new role as Executive Director. Thank you for your continued commitment to our Catholic camps. May God bless you and your families during this time, and may the Blessed Mother, our Heavenly Advocate, keep us under her mantle of care.

 Sincerely yours in Christ,
David A. Thibault
President, Board of Directors
